The Family Behind the Food at Calzada’s Kitchen
Calzada’s Kitchen is much more than a restaurant and catering business—it’s a family passion brought to life. Now operating Culp’s Café at Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio, the Calzada family combines rich culinary traditions with a deep commitment to their community.
Jose and Carol Calzada lead the team with hearty enthusiasm and experience, joined by their children, Danny Cortes, D’Juliana Calzada, Frank Calzada, and Maui Calzada. This family-operated business reflects their shared dedication and love for cooking!
Both Jose and Carol immigrated to the U.S.—Jose at age 6, Carol at 13—and chose Dayton as their home in 2006, bringing with them stories, culture, and flavors that have shaped their food.
Jose’s culinary journey started in Chicago, where he studied at Kendall College and honed his skills in French and Italian kitchens. His impressive career includes international training and cooking for notable personalities such as Oprah Winfrey and Julia Child. This blend of expertise and family values makes Calzada’s Kitchen a true taste of heart and heritage in every dish.
